Outstanding Contribution to Ireland - 2008

Wyeth Logo
Wyeth
With a product portfolio including innovative treatments across a wide range of therapeutic areas, Wyeth's products are sold in more than 145 countries. Its worldwide resources include 47,500 employees, manufacturing facilities on four continents and a unique research and technology base encompassing small molecules, biopharmaceuticals, and vaccines. Wyeth, with Bernard Poussot acting as President, CEO and Chairman, continues to lead the way in the development of novel therapies that address critical global health needs.
In Ireland, it employs over 3,000 staff at five locations nationwide (Dublin, Limerick, Sligo and Kildare) and has located key elements of its global business there, proving its confidence in Ireland and its commitment to the country as its base. The flagship Wyeth Biotech facility in Clondalkin in Dublin is one of the largest biotech facilities in the world, and Wyeth Nutritionals, which manufactures the SMA product, is one of Europe’s leading producers of infant and child nutritional products.
The new Wyeth Ireland office involved a €5m investment and the creation of 24 jobs as well as four departments at its new headquarters in Ballycoolin, Dublin. Those departments created were: medical, regulatory, corporate affairs and operations and quality.
2007 delivered strong financial results for Wyeth, mainly driven by the fast growth of its biotechnology products Enbrel and Prevnar. It generated net revenue of $22.4bn, which is an increase on the 2006 figure of $20.35bn. The Consumer Healthcare revenue grew 8% and Fort Dodge Animal Health’s revenue increased 11%, surpassing $1bn in sales for the first time in its history.
Also in 2007, Wyeth contributed significant products to developing countries, including about 700,000 doses of the Meningitec vaccine to prevent meningitis C and 25,000 doses of Prevnar to areas of Peru hit by an earthquake earlier in the year. And in the US, its patient assistance programmes continue to provide Wyeth products at no charge to those unable to pay. More than 145,000 patients benefited from the programme last year, with product donations valued at over $143m.
